Board approves 2013-2014 Student-Teacher Calendar

School will begin on August 26 next year under the 2013-2014 Student-Teacher Calendar adopted by the Board of Trustees at its November 12 meeting. With past community surveys showing that the GCISD community traditionally supports the same designated holidays and breaks each year, the new calendar mirrors the current year's calendar format. State law requires that public schools begin classes no earlier than the fourth Monday in August and local waivers for an earlier school start date are no longer an option. By state law, August 26, 2013, is the first day that schools are allowed to begin the 2013-2014 school year.

Student holidays in the 2013-2014 calendar are Labor Day, Columbus Day, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, Presidents Day/Washington's Birthday, and Memorial Day. Breaks reflect traditional community preferences of a week at Thanksgiving and Spring Break, and two weeks for Winter Break. The fall semester ends on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, and the last day of school for students is June 4, 2014. GCISD also has five professional learning days within the calendar each year and two bad weather days are included if needed. Download a copy of the calendar in .pdf format.
