GCISD rewarded for energy efficiency

Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (GCISD) was awarded a $1,202 cash incentive from Oncor’s Educational Facilities Program (EFP) for installing high efficiency air cooling systems in Silver Lake and Bear Creek elementary schools.

The EFP helps schools save energy and money by providing no-cost facility improvement recommendations and financial incentives based on the total amount of energy the equipment will save. The energy-efficient equipment will save more than $6,000 in electricity costs over the lifetime of the equipment.

“Oncor’s Educational Facilities Program provides vital resources to help our district save energy and put money back into improving student services,” said Tom Browning, GCISD Director of Facility Services. “We will continue looking for ways to reduce energy consumption in the district.”

GCISD joined the Oncor program in 2011. As part of the program, Oncor works with participating campuses to identify energy-saving measures at existing facilities and incorporate efficient design into new construction. Oncor also offers free energy planning to schools, colleges and universities in its service area.

“Schools are part of the fabric of the communities Oncor serves. Oncor is excited about this unique program that helps schools invest in energy efficiency improvements,” said Don Perfect, Oncor Area Manager. “We’re proud of the accomplishments of GCISD and pleased to reward its efforts."
