BES teacher finalist for Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

Wendy and Dr. Hodges Bransford Elementary School kindergarten teacher Wendy Hendry was in Austin on Friday, Feb. 1, to receive her award for being selected as one of six state finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Three math and three science k-6 teachers are selected from the state of Texas and then those teachers go on to compete at the national level, where one math and one science teacher will be selected to represent each state.

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 mathematics and science teaching. Established by Congress in 1983, the PAEMST recognizes teachers who develop and implement a high-quality instructional program that enhances student learning and is informed by content.

GCISD has two former national winners who represented Texas. Good luck to Wendy Hendry as she advances to the national level of competition!
