The GCISD Board of Trustees named Brianne Barker-Groth as the new head volleyball coach at Colleyville Heritage High School (CHHS) during the Board meeting on Monday, February 22.
Coach Barker-Groth will join CHHS from Lovejoy where she served as an assistant coach for two seasons, during which time she helped lead the team to a state championship and the state runner-up the following year. Before coaching at Lovejoy, Barker-Groth was a professional volleyball player with the Bayamon Club in San Juan, Puerto Rico where she competed in international volleyball tournaments.
“We are so excited to welcome Coach Barker-Groth to the Panther family,” said Conrad Streeter, CHHS Principal. “Her experience as a collegiate and professional athlete has instilled in her a discipline and drive for excellence that we are confident she will be able to pass along to our Lady Panther volleyball players.”
The search for a new head volleyball coach began in January when Hollie Huston informed players and campus administrators that she would not return as the Panther volleyball coach for the 2016 season.
While attending the University of Oklahoma, Barker-Groth received her Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies Communication and played for the Sooners on the volleyball team.
As a player, Coach Barker-Groth played at the University of Oklahoma where she was named to the Big XII 1st Team All-Conference in 2010 and 2011, as well as team MVP in 2010. Additionally, LoneStarVolleyball.com named Barker-Groth Texas Player of the Decade for 2000-2010.
