Former GHS Mustang returns to alma mater to coach volleyball
Former Grapevine High School volleyball player and alumni, Whitney Woody, has been named as the new Lady Mustang volleyball coach. Trustees approved the recommendation during its regular meeting on Monday, March 28.
Coach Woody will rejoin the Mustangs from Centennial High School in Burleson where she has served as head coach since 2012. Before coaching at Centennial High School, Woody was the head volleyball coach at Arlington Heights High School and Stripling Middle School.
“We are so excited to have Coach Woody rejoin the Mustang Nation after serving as team captain and a three year varsity letterman during her time at GHS,” GHS Principal David Denning said. “The experiences she has had not only as a former Mustang, but also as a highly successful high school volleyball coach, will help continue to lead our student athletes not only on the court but also in the classroom.”
The search for a new head volleyball coach began in January when Kori Cooper accepted the head coach position at Cedar Park High School in Leander ISD.
Woody played collegiate volleyball at Midwestern State University and Wesleyan University and received her bachelor of science from the University of Texas at Arlington.
“Grapevine High School and the Lady Mustang volleyball program have been part of my life for many years in many different ways and I am fulfilling a dream to coach and teach at my alma mater,” Woody said. “I look forward to continuing the successes of the Lady Mustang volleyball teams and am excited to meet the athletes and parents who work so hard to make this program strong.”
