New principal named for Colleyville Heritage High School

Lance Current Colleyville Heritage High School Associate Principal, Dr. Lance Groppel, has been named the new campus principal, the district announced Tuesday.

“We are excited to name Dr. Groppel as the next principal of Colleyville Heritage High School,” said Dr. Robin Ryan, GCISD Superintendent. “Although he has only been with us for a year, the passion for student success, demonstration of leadership capabilities and resolve to the mission and vision of GCISD and LEAD 2021 are extremely evident. Dr. Groppel is going to be a great leader for the Colleyville Heritage students, staff and parents and I look forward to seeing continued student success and achievement under his guidance.”

The district also announced on Tuesday that Conrad Streeter, who has served as CHHS principal since 2013, would assume the role of Executive Director for Instructional Leadership in GCISD.

Dr. Groppel began his career in Glen Rose ISD in 2006 as a high school U.S. history teacher, football and softball coach. He then spent two years at Odessa High School as a health teacher and junior varsity baseball coach. Dr. Groppel worked as a special education inclusion teacher at Hillsboro High School in 2008 until he was named assistant principal at Hillsboro Junior High in 2009. During his time at Hillsboro Junior High he implemented a positive behavior management system, supervised extracurricular activities, developed the master schedule, as well as served as textbook and co-testing coordinator. In 2012, Dr. Groppel became principal at Bridge City Middle School where he dedicated two years to improving instruction and student achievement. While at Bridge City Middle School he also created professional learning communities to promote a culture focused on teaching, learning and student growth. In July 2014, Dr. Groppel moved up to be the campus leader at Bridge City High School where he remained for one year until joining the CHHS staff in August 2015.

“Over the last year, I have been fortunate to be a member of this community and I am so grateful for the opportunity to lead one of the best high schools in the country,” said Dr. Groppel. “At Colleyville Heritage we have a 20 year history of achieving excellence and I look forward to continuing the work of great principals before me as we strive for another 20 years of excellence.”

Dr. Groppel received his bachelor’s degree in physical education, health and special education and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Tarleton State University. In 2013, Dr. Groppel graduated from Texas A&M Commerce with his doctoral degree in education administration and superintendent certification.

Dr. Groppel will assume his new campus leadership role on July 1.
