New principal named for Bear Creek Elementary

Bryan At the June 20 Board of Trustees meeting, Trustees approved Bryan Calvert as the new principal for Bear Creek Elementary School. Calvert is currently serving as an assistant principal at Lorenzo de Zavala Middle School in Irving ISD.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to join GCISD and become a part of the great tradition of excellence at Bear Creek Elementary,” Calvert said. “It will be a privilege to serve the students and parents at Bear Creek, while working together with the staff as we strive to achieve the high expectations established for all students.”

The search for a new Bear Creek principal began in May when Brooke Moose announced her retirement after more than 40 years in education, 30 of which were in GCISD. Input from campus and community representatives was solicited to determine the desired qualifications and characteristics of a new principal for Bear Creek.

Calvert has spent his entire career in Irving ISD, starting as a special education teacher in 2002 at Otis Brown Elementary. In 2005, Calvert began 11 years of service at Lorenzo de Zavala Middle School - first as a special education and inclusion teacher and then as an athletic coordinator and physical education teacher. He has spent the last four years as an assistant principal.

Calvert graduated with his bachelor's degree in education from Baylor University and his master’s in education from Lamar University.

“We are excited to welcome Bryan to the GCISD and Bear Creek communities,” said Dr. Robin Ryan, GCISD Superintendent. “Bryan is a servant leader with an emphasis on campus-wide collaboration while focusing everything back to students. It is this kind of leadership that will continue the growth and development of the students and staff at Bear Creek Elementary.”

He will begin his new role on July 20.
