GCISD's 2011 NCEA Higher Performing Schools recognized

Four GCISD schools have been named to the 2011 National Center for Education Achievement's Higher Performing Schools List . According to the NCEA, schools on the list  consistently have more success in preparing students for college and careers than their peers that serve similar student populations. In Texas only 10% of schools are identified as Higher Performing Schools by the organization.  NCEA provided award certificates to each Higher Performing School and the district.

These GCISD schools received Higher Performing (HP) recognition in the following areas:
  • Colleyville Heritage High School - Science
  • Colleyville MIddle School - Social Studies
  • O.C. Taylor Elementary - Writing
  • Timberline Elementary - Math and Reading
NCEA, a department of ACT, Inc. a not-for-profit organization committed to helping people achieve education and workplace success, identified the Higher Performing Schools (formerly known as Just for the Kids Schools) based on one or both of two measures:
  • academic growth of students and/or
  • achievement of students on the TAKS Commended standard
