TONIGHT: GCISD and Rep. Truitt partner on school finance town hall meeting

State Rep. Vicki Truitt (R-Keller) and Grapevine-Colleyville ISD are partnering in a town hall meeting to engage local residents, educators, parents and students in a discussion about challenges with the public school finance system. Truitt is organizing the meeting to better understand the concerns of those that she represents in the Legislature.

“The purpose of this town hall meeting is for me to listen to constituents so that I may better understand their concerns about public school finance. I want to ensure that the voices and opinions of the people from the 98th District will be heard in Austin," said Truitt. "Before I can speak for them, I must listen to them."

She was one of a select group of legislative leaders recently appointed to the Joint Interim Committee to Study the Public School Finance System. This committee was authorized by lawmakers during a Special Session of the Texas Legislature last summer and will recommend changes to the 83rd Legislature in 2013.

"Serving on this committee will enable me to play a key role as the state seeks a better way to fund public education and works for a better formula and mechanism through which state funding is disbursed to local school district,” said Truitt.

The town hall meeting will be held from 6::30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, at Cross Timbers Middle School, 2301 Pool Road, Grapevine, TX 76051.

Representative Vicki Truitt is a seventh-term legislator from Tarrant County representing the people of Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Keller, Westlake and parts of Trophy Club and Fort Worth. She chairs the House Committee on Pensions, Investments and Financial Services, and is a member of the House Committees on Calendars and Public Health.
