Free summer meals offered to students this summer
GCISD Nutrition Services department will provide free breakfast and lunch during the summer to students ages 18 and younger. The program, which will be held at four schools, will provide meals with the essential nutrients for active, growing kids. No registration, PIN number, proof of age or income are needed to participate in the free meals program. All kids have to do is show up at a serving site. The entire meal must be consumed at the serving site; no "to go" meals available. Breakfast is offered from 7-8:30 a.m. and lunch is offered from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the following sites:
  • Timberline Elementary:  June 6 – July 15
  • Cannon Elementary: June 6 – June 29
  • Grapevine Middle: June 14 – July 29 (M-Th)
  • Cross Timbers Middle: June 6 – August 5
GCISD provides these meals as part of the National School Lunch Program Seamless Summer Option (SSO), which was created to ensure that children receive proper nourishment during the summer months when school is not in session. The SSO offers good, nutritious food that’s “in” when school is “out.” The Texas legislature mandates participation in the SSO for districts with schools that have 60 percent or greater of students who are eligible for free and reduced-price meals. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the National School Lunch Program.
