Google Maps 3d Satellite View – A new way to access the latest satellite pixels with the advantage of reducing data usage for bandwidth-constrained environments.

Today we’re introducing a new setting in the Google Earth Map Style panel to make it easier to access the latest satellite pixels.

New satellite imagery is at the top of Google Earth users’ wish lists. Although we aim to provide the most accurate representation of the planet, there is a trade-off between spatial (resolution) and temporal (frequency) improvements in data quality.

For example, 3D buildings provide a realistic representation of cities in high resolution, but rendering takes longer, which affects the refresh rate of the 3D layer. However, if you’re looking for the newest pixels, the 2D satellite layer is a good place to start.

A toggle in the Map Style panel lets you turn 3D buildings and trees on or off depending on your preference (the 3D area still works in both cases). When activated, you will see the most realistic representation of the world in 3D. When the switch is off, it can expose 2D images.

For example, with 3D buildings disabled, you can control the construction of the National Stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, or discover the newly built Legoland in a parking lot in Nagoya. When you walk around Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong, you can see many new streets and buildings.

As an added bonus, if you’re working in spatial resolution, it can be easier to navigate the Earth when you have 3D buildings disabled, as the app requires less data.

How Does Google Earth Work?

This feature is available on all platforms today. The Map Style panel can be accessed from the main menu of the application. We hope this key optimizes your experience with Google Earth.
